Kavya
Hi I am Kavya, a counseling psychologist and psychotherapist based in Thane and Mumbai. I have been working in the field of mental health for the last 6 years, and I am a certified Queer Affirmative and trauma-informed therapist. My specialization during my Masters was Counseling Psychology. I embrace a person-centered therapeutic approach. I also lean towards an eclectic approach, introducing more than one school of thought in the sessions and tailoring my methods to meet the unique needs of each client. Recognizing the importance of a holistic perspective, I view therapy as a valuable resource that guides you on your path to healing and mental well-being.

Why Therapy?

Therapy is a space for self-expression, irrespective of a specific diagnosis. It is an opportunity to be heard, understand maladaptive patterns, and build resources for navigating current and future challenges. While therapy will not magically make problems disappear, it equips you with tools to manage them adaptively.

What happens in therapy?

Embarking on the journey of therapy can be a daunting step, often accompanied by apprehension and fear of judgment. Worry not, let us take a quick glance at what to expect from therapy.

  • During therapy the therapist helps you connect with your emotions, reflect, and understand your behavioural patterns.
  • This then creates an insight which helps with the healing process.
  • They also help you to develop skills to handle the distressing emotions.
  • The therapist tries to create a space where you feel heard and can express your thoughts and emotions without any judgments.

Services offered

I often get asked when should I reach out to a therapist? Or should I go to a therapist? To this my response is even the thought of I need external help is a good enough indicator that seeking therapy might be useful. One's reason to approach a therapist might be unique to themselves.

Ethical Practice

Ensuring ethical practice is integral to my approach. This is achieved by seeking regular supervision sessions and maintaining confidentiality. I not only advocate for therapy but actively seek it in my own journey of personal development. This helps me understand my own triggers and biases, enhances self awareness, and fosters a more empathetic therapeutic environment.

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of our therapeutic relationship. Exceptions are made only in cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.

Talking to a friend surely can make you feel lighter and heard. A friend however might not know how to respond to certain thoughts or emotions or might not know what to do in case you feel overwhelmed while sharing about certain stressful events. A therapist being a professional knows to create a space where you can experience your thoughts or emotions and is equipped to help you ground yourself in case you feel overwhelmed.

Both online and offline sessions are available. People staying in or around Thane can reach out for offline sessions.
